Gratitude, Healing, and Polished Rocks
Hello Life Re-Creators,
Was your e-mail box swamped with Thanksgiving wishes?
Mine sure was.
That's exactly why you are receiving your Thanksgiving wish today.
Happy Thanksgiving to all--even if yesterday was not your official Thanksgiving day.
Is gratitude a part of every day for you?
You were in my thoughts yesterday as my grandchildren and children
provided so much joy, I refused to leave them.
Here's what gratitude I have for them being in our lives.
For many years, they lived too far away to join us on Thanksgiving.
Wishes were extended by phone and lots of life milestones were missed.
In the spirit of Re-Creating my life through Conscious Choice,
I decided to devote my day to them and be fully present.
Forming new family traditions is one of the Conscious Choices
I made while on my healing path.
Yesterday, we created a new family tradition.
Everyone chose a part of the menu to help me prepare.
As the "chief chef", I taught and supervised
rather than doing most of the actual work.
We experienced a wonderful interactive day
without any stress or tension.
This is the foundation of my gratitude that
comes from healing dysfunctional family issues.
When we took a break, the children were
shown a little project I've been working on.
This is where polished rocks comes in...
At the end of the summer, I went with a group
of friends crystal hunting near where we live.
This opened my eyes to beauty close at hand.
A rock tumbler caught my eye, and
I decided to see what would happen.
Do you know how long it takes to tumble rocks
from rough form to beautiful polished stones?
It depends on the type of rock,
but at a minimum 4-5 weeks.
The rocks just finished tumbling this week and
I asked the children to help me do the final process.
They were amazed at how long it takes rocks
to change from rough to smooth.
Do you sometimes think your healing is the same way?
When you stay focused on your healing,
just as I moved the rocks from one process to the next,
you will find the polished stone inside yourself.
Transformational Journaling is the key for you
to create wonderful family traditions to fill your heart with gratitude.

Spirituality and Transformational Journaling
is a question raised by some readers. This can be a touchy
subject because there are so many religious and spiritual beliefs.
Before I share my viewpoint, I want you to know this is a
common issue that individuals face when they enter any
type of recovery or change system. Some people go to
12-step programs because they have a spiritual base
while others stay away for the same reason. There
are other groups similar to 12 step programs that
remove all references to spirituality. On my own
recovery path, I met many people who felt the
only way to heal was through a specific church--
this includes many denominations.
For me, spirituality is a very personal issue.
Because everyone has different belief systems,
and it may be different from mine, I work with
each person individually on this issue. Some people
want to include spirituality in their healing process
and others don’t. This is all part of Re-Creating
your life through conscious choice.
What is most important is healing from your
dysfunctional family issues whether it be an
alcoholic or substance abusing parent,
child abuse, or your own addictions.
Transformational Journaling works for
any healing issues. You include your own
personal preferences for spirituality or non-spiritual
involvement in your soul transformation.

5 Reasons WhyTransformational Journaling:
Have you ever kept running thoughts over and over in your head? Maybe they keep you awake at night. A former client complained about this in one of our groups. I suggested he write down what was running through his brain so it would be on paper the next morning when he woke up. He reported this worked for him and he was able to get back to sleep. In the morning, he was able to make choices about what he wanted to do in regards to the issue keeping him awake.
5 Reasons I recommend Transformational Journaling for the healing process.
1) Transformational Journaling moves constantly rehashed thoughts out of your head and onto paper. This creates a release of the overload or overwhelm you are experiencing to get past being burdened by the inability to resolve the current problem. It allows you to see a way to the solution.
2) Transformational Journaling ties your thoughts (beliefs), behaviors (actions), and feelings (emotions) together so you can assess the reality of what is happening in your life. This helps with the next reason.
3) Transformational Journaling develops clarity for where you are living your life around a specific issue.
4) When you use Transformational Journaling to move thoughts out of your head, it creates the mental space to decide what you want to do differently in the future with regard to that issue.
5) Transformational Journaling creates a record of growth and change you can review to see what you have done to Transform your Soul and Re-Create your Life.
You can learn more about applying Transformational Journaling in your life. Check out if this system is for you. Go here to take the assessment. Receive your free report that tells you where Transformational Journaling will help you most in your life.
See you on Your Inner Journey,
Debra
P.S. The more you use the Transformational Journaling techniques, the more you live your life based on conscious choice.

What Does Resurfacing A Highway Have To Do With Transformational Journaling?
Transformational Journaling?
Before I answer this question,
let me tell you what happened.
Several days ago, I was driving on the interstate.
I came to a construction zone. As I slowed my car
to the legal limit,it occurred to me there is a
system construction companies use to resurface a highway.
First, they resurface in sections.
Second, they may be taking the surface off one side
of the highway, and at the same time be building up
the surface on the other side. Or they could just be
doing this with two different traffic lanes.
Here’s what I noticed. They are transforming a
bumpy surface back to a smooth surface.
Just like your Inner Journey where you
remove the layers of the bumpy surface to
Re-Create your Life of Conscious Choice.
Once you Transform Your Soul with
Transformational Journaling, you choose
the next steps on Your Daily Journey
differently because you now have a
smooth surface to ride on.
Over time, if you stop or slow down
your journaling you may notice your road
starts to develop bumps in it. This is a good
reminder to renew your Transformational Journaling
because with any road, there is going to be wear and tear.
The good news is you have the Transformational Journaling
tools to apply immediately whenever wear and tear, or
stress and strain occur in your life. You can
Re-Create your Life through Conscious Choice

Keep Your Path Of Choice

When focused on what you want to be, have, do, and give you are moving forward to create your life. You are in charge and every choice you make moves you forward to living life on your terms.
A Look On The Positive Side
You are probably asking how we look on the positive side. I learned to do this with affirmations. There are lots of opinions about affirmations. Let me tell you what they are and how I use them.
Create Your Harmonious Lifestyle
You move your soul transformation process along with maintenance of all you accomplished through your transformational journaling. There are many options to create a harmonious lifestyle. You examine each area of your life to determine where you are in that area and project where you want to be in one year, five years, and moving forward. You develop a framework for a harmonious life.
To Share Or Not To Share—That Is The Question
Now that you are journaling, what do you do with all your writing? It's time to consider whether you are ready to share your discoveries with a safe confidante or to keep them to yourself for a while longer. When I shared my Transformational Journaling, I found my safe confidante supportive, understanding, and encouraging.
When I shared with my confidante, it helped me open my life up to you so you could move forward on your journey.

I Think I Can, I Think I Can--Thoughts Create Reality
Just like "The Little Engine That Could", your Thoughts Create Your Reality"
Re-Create Your Life when you Transform Your Thoughts with Transformational Journaling.
Chapter VII in "From Darkness to Light: Your Inner Journey" gives you techniques to Set Healthy Limits and harmonize your Teeter-Totter Thoughts.
Take a look now at Chapter VII
Thoughts Create Reality
Focusing on your thinking processes is an important area for transforming your soul. Many messages you received growing up continue to run your life at a subconscious level. You may find yourself on automatic pilot more than you can imagine. Your reactions to situations may seem to come out of nowhere. Actually, they are coming from messages received as a child.
These messages affect your emotional and physical limits. Your personal values, standards, and beliefs are affected. They affect your Teeter-Totter Thinking. Explore these areas and identify what thinking patterns are keeping you from transforming your soul.
Set Healthy Limits
Establishing Healthy Emotional and Physical Limits is an important area for transforming your life. Because souls in transformation often experience boundary violations from abuse, neglect, or being burdened with carried feelings, they have difficulty setting and maintaining healthy limits.
Limits
• Define personal limits and the differences between healthy, damaged, non-existent limits and walls.
• Provides a framework to determine what your limits are and how you want to make them more functional.
• Learn to establish healthy limits, you learn to take charge of your own identity and develop differentiation from the family you grew up in.
Teeter-Totter Thoughts
Another area where limit violations occur is in our thinking patterns. People entering soul transformation often find they have rigid thinking patterns. They tend to be black and white, or either or thinking patterns. I like to think of them as opposite ends of a teeter-totter. When you choose your response from one end or the other, you are out-of-harmony.
• Understand Teeter-Totter thinking commonly referred to as black and white or absolute thinking.
• You are presented with a means to make changes in your thinking and the techniques needed to make these changes.
Teeter-totter Thinking journaling is a vital area to address in soul transformation. You may react to messages and communication without considering what thought patterns are behind your reactions. Then, as you consider the situation at a later time, you may find yourself wishing you said something differently or reacted in a different way.
Being aware of your personal limits, helps you adjust your reaction to respond based on choice. Awareness of your teeter-totter thoughts allows you the opportunity to choose your verbal response instead of automatically reacting with the thinking patterns you learned in childhood.

Wake Up Your Feelings
A Picture Speaks A Thousand Words
Create Your Own Feeling Pictures
Whose Feeling Is It Anyway?
Life Moves On
Wake Up Your Feelings
Experiencing feelings in-depth and delving deeper into them fully brings on an enhanced level of soul transformation. Keep in mind that feelings are not right or wrong, good or bad. They are your physical and emotional experience of life. As you move into work centered on feelings, you may find it difficult to acknowledge feelings and experience them.
Here is where you may get stuck because you're afraid to let your feelings out. This happens because we kept them held down for a long, long time. Take this chapter slowly and work with positive feelings as much as possible. Once you are able to paint feeling pictures, then go for a low level negative feeling such as "bored".
Create Your Own Feeling Pictures
The most effective method in describing a feeling is using your five senses and painting a word picture. I realized how cut off my body was from my brain. Thinking back to my five senses helped me connect my body and brain.
You may be wondering why this is such an important area for soul transformation. Feelings are the basis of healthy communication. When we are disconnected from our feeling self, we tend to express ourselves in dysfunctional ways.
Whose Feeling Is It Anyway?
Carried feelings are the ones parents were not being responsible for in themselves when they were in their own shame. These feelings are the burdens weighing the recovering soul down because they override their own feelings. It’s like having someone else put all their stuff in your backpack to carry for them. You have your stuff and theirs on top of yours. You have a hard time finding your stuff under all their stuff.
Life Moves On
Healing involves grieving various types of losses in your life. To help you work through the grieving stages, I put together five questions based on the five stages of grief. These questions are designed to help you assess where you are in your process and where you want to go to move through the grieving process.
Grief work provides you with outlets to express feelings related to past, present and future losses. Connecting with you on a feeling level is an important process in soul transformation and Re-Creating Your Life. There is no set order to work through grief. You may find yourself bouncing in and out of the different stages as you do your grief work. This is normal and there is no set time limit on how long it takes to grieve a loss. It is very important to be gentle with yourself while working through your grief.
In "From Darkness to Light: Your Inner Journey", I walk you step-by-step to paint your own feelings pictures. You learn how I experience "jovial", then use your Transformational Journaling "Focus Point" to do the same. Included with the book is a list of over 800 feeling words you can choose from to start connecting with yourself and gently bringing your feelings back to life.

Surviving Hurricanes and DysFunctional Families
What do hurricanes and DysFunctional Families have in common?
Before I get to the answer, I want you to take a moment for the
survivors of Hurricane Gustav. I know what they experienced.
After living 10 years in the Florida panhandle, I returned to Colorado.
My first hurricane warning was a traumatic and quick learning experience.
By the time, we were forced to flee Ft. Walton Beach several years later,
I felt like a seasoned hurricane veteran.
Even today, I feel the tension of watching and waiting for the latest
hurricane to make landfall.
My heart goes out to all who must leave their homes and daily routines.
It’s tough not to know what you will
find the first time you approach your home.
The most memorable find for me was melted ice cream in my freezer.
Two days without electricity--I look back and smile about this today
as I picture myself cleaning up the mess.
How does this relate to DysFunctional Families?
Trauma and abuse survivors never know what will happen next.
They spend their lives waiting for the next incident to occur, always on-guard.
In “From Darkness to Light: Your Inner Journey” find out
Does Your Family Put The Fun In DysFunctional? Take a peek at Chapter V now.

Does Your Family Put The Fun In DysFunctional?

All About Your Family
Family patterns describe how to create a healthy functioning family. The more a family functions on a healthy level day-by-day, the more quickly they return to healthy functioning after moving through a crisis or stress situation. Functional family patterns are described in four areas:
• Communication
• Relationships
• Personal growth
• System maintenance
Wow! Communication is probably the most misunderstood idea in developing healthy families, healthy relationships, and healthy lives.
Relationships are the backbone of the family. You find out how to create healthy relationships within your family, socially, and in all areas of your life.
Personal growth is the emotional, mental, and spiritual development of the individual. My mentors and teachers are all in agreement with me…“if you’re not growing, you’re dying”. Growing through the “Transformational Journaling for Healing Souls™ system is a lifetime investment in your own personal growth.
System maintenance is about creating and maintaining harmony in the family system. Now is your opportunity to learn how to Re-Create your Life in healthy ways. In the eBook “From Darkness to Light: Your Inner Journey, I take you step-by-step through the process.
Your Family Theater
As an adult, you continue to pursue these behavior patterns in all your relationships. The family role patterns identified in this book are the hero, caretaker, scapegoat, lost child, and mascot. We talk about these in the “Family Theater”. In “Rules of the Family Game”, we talk about spoken and unspoken rules you are expected to follow. “All about your Family” covers how the family learns to be dysfunctional and how this dysfunction is passed on generationally.
In the eBook “From Darkness to Light: Your Inner Journey, you determine your family role and decide how you want to increase your flexibility to Transform your Soul.
Once you identify your issues, choices about how you want to change are possible.
Rules Of The Family Game
Family rules are expectations about how family members interact or relate to each other. They may be stated or unstated. In the eBook “From Darkness to Light: Your Inner Journey, you will find a chart of general family rules.
Family patterns, roles, and rules cover a broad cross-section of family functioning. Through identifying patterns and processes, you move your soul transformation forward to thriving in your life. You no longer carry the dysfunctional patterns of your childhood into your adult relationships and current family.
Transformational Journaling “Focus Point”--Determine how you may be passing dysfunctional family patterns on to your current family.
Peace and calm,
Debra

Discover The Complicated Web We Weave
Chapter IV
Oh The Complicated Web We Weave
Family System Patterns
Family/Individual Development
Types Of Families That Produce Dysfunctional Behavior Patterns
Families Take Lots Of Work
Family Patterns
Understand how your family you grew up in passed on dysfunctional patterns through the multigenerational emotional process. Okay, I know that was a mouthful. Let me explain.
First, multigenerational means the patterns you learned which came down from parents, grandparents, great-grandparents and possibly further back.
Now, for the second part of that phrase “emotional process” means the feelings you are encouraged to express and the feelings no one wants to talk about. This also refers to your emotional development. In “From Darkness to Light: Your Inner Journey” you discover how to identify your dysfunctional family patterns and decide how you want to do them differently in the future.
What does “dysfunctional” mean? I know you’ve heard it many times. It means you are being, doing, feeling, thinking, and acting in unhealthy ways. Later in this chapter, you will have a chance to see how your family patterns were healthy or unhealthy. You will learn Transformational Journaling techniques to choose how you want to do, be, feel, think or act differently. There’s a picture in the eBook to help you understand dysfunctional and functional.
Family/Individual Development
Identifying the differences between functional and dysfunctional family systems requires a basic understanding of the developmental stages of each family member plus the developmental stages of the family. These two development processes are happening at the same time. They often lead to confusion, miscommunication, and misunderstanding in families. When you understand these processes, you are able to better manage the tasks of each stage.
Types Of Families That Produce Dysfunctional Behavior Patterns
You learn about the four types of family systems that produce dysfunctional adults. You identify your dysfunctional family patterns. You use Transformational Journaling “Focus Points” to determine how you can vary those patterns toward the healthy/functional patterns presented.
These behavior patterns follow what you learned as a child about your role in the family in order to survive. Adult children survive in life and DESPERATELY try to find out how to live life without the necessary tools to do so. Sound familiar?
Families Take Lots of Work
Contrary to popular belief, families are actually quite complicated. There are a lot of pieces to weave together. Just think about all the people you know and the differences in each of their families. Variety is certainly the spice of life when it comes to families.
Besides all those differences in families, you have all the individual members growing, developing, and having their own personalities. Add to the mix the personality of the family, the personality of the families the parents grew up in, and their ancestors. It’s sometimes amazing we all come out as good as we do.
But…add the additional dysfunctions of substance abuse/chemical dependency, childhood abuse/neglect, chronic physical or mental illness, and authoritarian families and you increase the potential for problems that can seem overwhelming.

Journey Down Your Self-Discovery Path
Your journey to transform your soul begins when you start journaling. This is your personal path of self-discovery. Transformational Journaling is the method I used to identify the life events and the impacts they had on my functioning. Now, that sounds pretty overwhelming on first blush. Find out how Mrs. H. Transformed her Soul and Re-Created her life in the eBook “From Darkness to Light: Your Inner Journey”.
Guide To Your Soul Transformation Path
This is a lifetime process of discovering who you are. The process occurs on a continuum. You can be at many points on the continuum depending on the thoughts and feelings you are experiencing at any given time. As soul transformation progresses, you spend more time at the self-love end of the continuum than at the denial end. The process of soul transformation goes through five stages I explain in detail in the book.
You are provided a healing framework designed especially for you and specific tools to use in your healing process. Tools, including specific journaling methods, are given and how to put them into practice is provided through Focus Points.
Transformation Tools
Adult children need to trust their instincts and find healthy ways out of the dysfunctional patterns. Transformational Journaling provides the techniques to identify and adopt healthy life patterns.
Transformational Journaling is a process of internal inquiry about life events and the impacts they have on your functioning. There are a number of techniques offered in the eBook, "From Darkness to Light: Your Inner Journey", you may find useful at different times in the journey to transform your soul.
Explore and work with each technique to find out what helps in your Soul Transformation. This journal is not designed to take the place of working with a mental health therapist. However, you may find this journal helpful in your therapy sessions.
My wish for you is you will find these Transformational Journaling techniques helpful in your Soul Transformation. Many of my psychotherapy clients were able to move more quickly through their Soul Transformation using Transformational Journaling techniques.
Gather Your Tools
What are the specific tools to guide a person through Soul Transformation? These take many different forms. What I found most useful is a combination of techniques.
I provide Focus Points throughout the eBook to apply in your own Soul Transformation process.
Plan to write daily for ten to fifteen minutes in the beginning just to become acquainted with your life as you are presently living it.
Use the Focus Points in the book, like this one, to help you get started.
TJ Focus Points—Use Stream-of-consciousness writing
· Write about what happened in your day
· Who did you encounter?
· Were there any significant issues that you were able to identify?
Learn the next step for using this tool in the eBook “From Darkness to Light: Your Inner Journey” available online at www.yoursoultransformed.com/innerjourneybook_dw.htm.
You are given alternative recovery tools including use of affirmations and guided imagery.
You experience the use of these tools in teleseminars.
More about the teleseminars next time.

We all learn from our families we grew up in how to be, think, do, feel, behave, give, and have in this world. Families give us our behavior patterns, our thinking patterns, our doing patterns, our feeling patterns, our attitude patterns, our giving patterns, and our having patterns. Some families do this in a functional or healthy way and other families do this in dysfunctional or unhealthy ways. Most families fall somewhere in between.
Are You An Adult Child From A Dysfunctional Family (ACDF)?
I want to help you understand the specific ACDF patterns. You can begin to identify these patterns in current contacts and determine changes of your choice toward healthier functioning.
Who Are Adult Children And How Are They A Part Of The Dysfunctional Family Cycle?
Adult children engage in a series of behavior patterns that become rigid and inflexible to allow a sense of being in control of their life. In actuality, their life is totally out-of-control.
Do these shoes fit you? Then, you are reading the right book. When I first learned about adult children, I was surprised to find myself in this group. My parents lead me to believe our family was normal, healthy, and the model to follow to raise my children. Of course, the denial about sexual abuse/incest was never discussed. How dysfunctional is that?
The Dysfunctional Family Cycle
The dysfunctional family cycle is the multigenerational multiplication of unhealthy behavior patterns. This means for every generation which is dysfunctional, more dysfunction is passed on to the next generation. These adults re-enact the dysfunctional family patterns in their daily lives.
Mood -Altering--What Was Your Choice?
Adult children fail to focus on their own emotional needs. They focus on something or someone outside of themselves. This allows them to mood-alter and avoid handling their own life and personal growth.
With Mood-altering behaviors, adult children allow their life to be controlled by work, home, family, church, school, recreation and anything or anyone that will keep them from considering their own emotional, physical, and spiritual needs. When their primary focus in life is on existing and trying to fit in with the rest of the world, they lose contact with the person they are and the harmony that comes from being in touch with their own reality. They are focused totally on reality outside themselves.

How long does healing take?
How long does healing take?
I am asked this question by just about everyone
I talk to about their own healing journey.
My response is everyone has their own path and timetable.
What I do know is you can heal if that is your choice.
No one ever promised it would be easy.
However, it is simple if you take it day-by-day
a step at a time. There are no miracles.
I was never given a magic wand.
My focus is to guide you on the path and
keep yourself moving through your work.
My journey this last month left me torn between
caring for my husband and staying connected with my work.
Although I have missed staying in touch with you,
I have good news.
I completed my book "From Darkness to Light: Your Inner Journey".
Please watch for announcements when it will be released.
Right now, I am working on the behind the scenes pieces.
Stay tuned for more...
In the meantime, here is another Transformational Journaling Tip
for you...
In my family, we handled problems by ________
In the future, I want to handle problems by _______
Until next time...

Healing--It takes as long as it takes
Over this past week, I learned just how much
time it can take to heal.
Before we get to my lesson,
here's what is happening.
My husband awoke about 7 weeks ago with
terrible pain in his knee.
He knew there was a problem because
his doctor treated his painful knee over the past two years.
But..this time it was different.
He went to the doctor that day.
X-rays showed lots of arthritis and
he was referred to a specialist.
The specialist took his own x-rays and told us
he must get in right away for knee replacement surgery.
Last Monday, June 16, we arrived at the hospital
expecting a 3-5 day stay.
Little did we know how slowly his healing would progress.
Watching Chuck learn to walk again pointed out to me,
we can only heal as fast as our body is ready.
So, here is what I learned...
whether we're healing our body, mind, or spirit,
we go at the pace we are ready to go.
Hurrying through the healing work sets us back,
just like Chuck pushed too hard yesterday.
Today, he must slow down.
Push yourself to your limits,
just don't go overboard.
Everyone has their own timetable for healing.
Find your own pace. Each of us is different.

Now is your Chance for...
Now is your chance for a sneak peek at my upcoming book.
I'm bursting with news, just like my garden is bursting out all over.
When I first planted my garden, there were only 3 small plants, and now they are going way outside their boundaries.
When we heal from childhood trauma and dysfunctional families, we feel like we want to burst outside our boundaries. Transformational Journaling is a special tool you use to move your healing forward to be all you can be.
This week I was talking with someone who is using the Transformational
Journaling techniques to move his healing forward. He struggles with an
issue many trauma survivors face on our healing journey--feeling good
about ourselves. I suggested he write out all his accomplishments in his life.
He was surprised because he was looking at his life from what he still wants to do.
Keeping a balanced view of your life is important to your healing.
Your Transformational Journaling Tip this week:
Write a list of all your accomplishments in your life up to today.
About that gift coming to you in my book...you can learn more when
my book is released just in time for Summer Solstice.
Have a beautiful, sunny week.
Peace and joy,
Doc Deb

You are like a Bud about to Flower, you Re-Create your Life

Spring is a wonderful time of year to start your journey to Transform your Soul and Re-Create your Life. I have a Clematis vine planted on the side of my house. Every year as the earth warms, I watch for the buds to appear, grow to full size, and open to beautiful purple flowers.
This year as I watched this unfolding, it reminded me of the transformation that occurs with the Transformational Journaling for Healing Souls TM system. First, you are like a bud tightly closed and protecting yourself from the elements. As you start to grow, you reveal just a part of yourself. The longer you are on your journey, the more you connect with the beauty of your real self. Finally, you open up completely to be the beautiful flower you were meant to be.

Become a beautiful flower in full bloom. Be sure to take your free assessment to find out where you are on your path to Transform your Soul and Re-Create your Life. Just go to http://www.yoursoultransformed.com.
I look forward to guiding you along the path to a choice-filled life.
Peace and beauty,
