Gratitude, Healing, and Polished Rocks

What do Gratitude, Healing and Polished Rocks have in common?

Hello Life Re-Creators,

Was your e-mail box swamped with Thanksgiving wishes?
Mine sure was.
That's exactly why you are receiving your Thanksgiving wish today.
Happy Thanksgiving to all--even if yesterday was not your official Thanksgiving day.
Is gratitude a part of every day for you?

You were in my thoughts yesterday as my grandchildren and children
provided so much joy, I refused to leave them.

Here's what gratitude I have for them being in our lives.
For many years, they lived too far away to join us on Thanksgiving.
Wishes were extended by phone and lots of life milestones were missed.
In the spirit of Re-Creating my life through Conscious Choice,
I decided to devote my day to them and be fully present.

Forming new family traditions is one of the Conscious Choices
I made while on my healing path.
Yesterday, we created a new family tradition.
Everyone chose a part of the menu to help me prepare.
As the "chief chef", I taught and supervised
rather than doing most of the actual work.

We experienced a wonderful interactive day
without any stress or tension.
This is the foundation of my gratitude that
comes from healing dysfunctional family issues.

When we took a break, the children were
shown a little project I've been working on.
This is where polished rocks comes in...

At the end of the summer, I went with a group
of friends crystal hunting near where we live.
This opened my eyes to beauty close at hand.

A rock tumbler caught my eye, and
I decided to see what would happen.
Do you know how long it takes to tumble rocks
from rough form to beautiful polished stones?
It depends on the type of rock,
but at a minimum 4-5 weeks.

The rocks just finished tumbling this week and
I asked the children to help me do the final process.
They were amazed at how long it takes rocks
to change from rough to smooth.

Do you sometimes think your healing is the same way?
When you stay focused on your healing,
just as I moved the rocks from one process to the next,
you will find the polished stone inside yourself.

I don't have children or grandchildren, but I have a niece and two precious great nieces that live in Wisconsin. My goal is to visit them really soon and spend some time playing with them.

Hi Dr. Deb,
Great to hear from you again! You have a wonderful idea to keep everyone involed in making the dinner time a very enjoyable time!

I am curious about your rock tumbling machine. Was it just a metaphor you used in your blog or is it a physical object you own. I have lots of desert diamonds that I have picked in the desert of Saudi Arabia and I know they can be polished and then look just like diamonds.
You post got me reflecting on how to re-create a family home for our globally scattered small family and where should it be? I intuit it would anchor our multicultural identity and help us grow roots again. I will offer this reflection to my loved ones when we meet this Christmas in France.
